Cooper Flagg has been a basketball sensation since his high school days, known for not going easy on his opponents, both with his drunks and his trash talk. In a viral video posted by a fan on Saturday, a fired-up Flagg is seen giving it his all on the hardwood.
The clash took place when the Duke sensation, playing for the Montverde Academy, took on VJ Edgecombe and his Long Island Lutheran team. The game was reported to be particularly physical, and at one point, Flagg is heard saying:
"You not like that—Put him in jail"
Flagg spent his sophomore and senior seasons with Montverde Academy. He was initially a 2025 class recruit but reclassified to 2024 and committed to Duke. In his final season, Flagg led Montverde to a 33-0 campaign, helping the program win its eighth national championship. He averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.
Cooper Flagg's mother believes that her son is ready for taunts and trash talks
Any fan of college basketball is aware of Duke's 'White Villain' title. From Christian Laettner to JJ Redick and Grayson Allen, all these players have been on the receiving end of much hate from opposing fans, and it seems the next person on this list is going to be Cooper Flagg.
While such an idea would deter many young players from venturing into the shark waters, the forward's mother, Kelly Flagg, believes that her son is more than ready for it.
“He’s always been fueled by negativity from the opposition," Kelly said in an interview with the Washington Post. "Every gym he went to his freshman year, he heard the ‘overrated’ chants.
"Then he would do something spectacular, and the chant would end abruptly. That’s just his personality. If you’re a basketball player, the color of your skin shouldn’t make a difference. If he can play, he can play.”
Duke's last championship was in 2015, so Blue Devils fans are eager to see their team bring the title back home to Durham, and Cooper Flagg could be their answer.
