“You made them in my favorite colors”: Proud mom Amy Fuller makes Paige Bueckers emotional after UConn star launches signature Nike collection

UConn star, Paige Bueckers launched her Nike GT Hustle 3 PE collection on Saturday and it was an emotional moment for her mother, Amy Fuller. Bueckers, who is in the final season of her college basketball career, signed a partnership with sportswear giant, Nike and became the first student-athlete to launch a Nike Player Edition basketball sneaker.

Her mom, Fuller, could not hide her emotions when she saw her daughter's collection.

"I am just super proud. I love the design and I am so glad you made them in my favorite colors too," she said to Bueckers.

Paige Bueckers launches her signature Nike collection

On Saturday, Paige Bueckers became the first NIL athlete to design and launch a Nike Player Edition basketball sneaker. She said that it was very motivating to wear her own shoe.

“I grew up wearing Nikes — all the signature shoes — so it’s surreal to have this Player Edition model. I just want to show out in it," the college hoops superstar said.

The sneaker features baby blue and lavender, two of her favorite colors and there are special details such as the area codes for UConn and her hometown in Minnesota on the left tongue of the design. The sneakers also feature an inspirational message Bueckers receives from her father before every game: “Be You, Be Great.”

“There are so many details that make this shoe special to me. This is the perfect colorway for me: I love baby blue and lavender, and the Radial Knit makes me feel fly. My favorite detail is the message from my dad, and the tribute to both of my homes is so meaningful for my first Player Edition model.” she said according to a press release from Nike.

Paige Bueckers' G.T. Hustle 3 was created by women, with female athletes comprising the majority of those involved in its testing and development.

Apart from her NIL deal with Nike, the UConn guard has also signed other NIL deals with brands like Gatorade, Dunkin’, Bose and Chegg. In August, Bueckers signed a deal with the Unrivaled Basketball League, the deal made her the first collegiate athlete to have ownership equity in a professional sports league.
