The Duke Blue Devils, led by Cooper Flagg, blew out the visiting Pittsburgh Panthers 76-47 on Tuesday night. Headlined by an outrageous Flagg poster dunk, the game was a close match-up until the final eight minutes.
Pittsburgh failed to score a single point in the last 7:59 as No. 4 Duke (13-2, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) went on an 18-0 run, clearly a frustrating ending for the Panthers (12-3, 3-1).
The frustration became evident when Damian Dunn was ejected from the game after he hit Tyrese Proctor in the belly, seemingly targeting the region below the belt. The incident, which occurred with less than a minute on the clock and with Pitt trailing by 24, didn't sit well with Duke fans and some other college hoops watchers.
"Real cheap shot by Damian Dunn," one fan tweeted.
"Damian Dunn been on the bulls***," another wrote.
"Sad that the young man most likely lost his career over an immature act," one fan on YouTube wrote.
"Dunn needs to grow up. No room in the game for that nonsense!" an enraged fan commented.
"he shouldn't be allowed to play anymore for the rest of the season he could have ended Proctor's career he didn't even go over to him and say he was sorry we don't need people like Dunn he's an embarrassment to the ACC and the NCAA Pitt shouldn't be allowed to play in the ACC tournament," a frustrated college hoops fan wrote.
"Wrong ball brother," a fan on YouTube quipped.
"He was going for his package. And trying to be slick about it. No play on the ball. Just stupid since they were getting their behinds kicked. Soft tap, sure. But either Draymond or Diddy are his role models. Ejection allowed..." a fan posted.
However, some fans felt that Tyrese Proctor exaggerated the foul. They felt the play should've been allowed because the contact was "soft," Or that at least it did not warrant a flagrant-2 foul call, leading to the ejection.
"Basketball is the new soccer when it comes to faking," a YouTube user wrote.
"that was soft af," another fan posted.
"Literally tapped him on his belly," a fan commented.
"Looked like a flop tbh," a fan on YouTube wrote.
"Literal tap tells you everything wrong about flopping. It wasn't even in the crotch area," another posted.
"I think it honestly was like a 'good shot' tap. Nothing malicious at all. I didn’t think the guy was being mean-spirited," a YouTube user posted.
"Weak," a fan on YouTube wrote.
