Memphis rookie Zach Edey is seemingly not over the loss to UConn in the national championship game in April. He expressed as much after ex-Husky Cam Spencer got his ring to commemorate that title run.

Edey played a crucial role in leading the Purdue Boilermakers to the 2024 NCAA Championship game, averaging 25.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. He was recognized as the National Player of the Year twice in 2023 and 2024, the first time in NCAA history that a player achieved that feat since Ralph Sampson in 1982 and 1983.

Despite his efforts, Purdue fell 75-60 to UConn in the championship game. Edey had 37 points and 10 rebounds, but the Huskies' strength was too much for him and the Boilermakers to overcome.

Among the players who helped lead UConn to victory for their second straight title was Edey's current Grizzlies teammate Cam Spencer. He contributed with 11 points, eight rebounds, and two assists as he was one of four players to score in double-digits for the Huskies in the game.

The Memphis Grizzlies paid tribute to Spencer for his impact on UConn's championship team. On Nov. 22, he was presented his championship ring at a team practice.

"National champion has a nice ring to it," the post read, honoring Spencer as he was presented his national championship ring.

Zach Edey reacted to the post of his former opponent and current teammate, providing a comment that displays the "thumbs down" emoticon to humorously express his disapproval.

How Zach Edey and Cam Spencer have performed in their rookie years so far

Following their collegiate careers, Zach Edey and Cam Spencer joined the professional ranks for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Edey, selected with the ninth pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, has done well in 14 appearances for the Grizzlies. He is averaging 11.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game on 61% shooting from the field, having gotten two double-doubles and counting. His best showing was against Brooklyn on Nov. 4, putting up 25 points and 12 rebounds in less than 29 minutes.

On the other hand, Spencer has only played two games for Memphis. He was picked 53rd by Detroit before getting traded to the Grizzlies, he has been used as a reserve until playing in the contests against Philadelphia on Nov. 20 and Chicago on Nov. 23. He combined for 20 minutes in those matchups, getting two points, two assists and a rebound.

Zach Edey, Cam Spencer and the Grizzlies are 10-7 on the season, awaiting their next game against Portland at the FedExForum on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
