
Niele Ivey is the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team. Ivey was appointed head coach in 2020 following Muffet McGraw’s retirement.
Niele Ivey's high school basketball career began as a player at St. Louis' Cor Jesu Academy. Under coach Gary Glasscock, Ivey led Cor Jesu to back-to-back Missouri Class 4A state championships in 1994 and 1995 while earning three consecutive All-State selections. Her dominance in the court earned her a spot on the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival Midwest Team. Ivey played collegiate basketball for the Fighting Irish.
Niele Ivey has compiled a 104–34 (.754) record as Notre Dame's head coach since 2020, establishing herself as one of the fastest coaches to reach 100 wins in ACC and program history. Her tenure includes three consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, an ACC Tournament title 2023–24, with a 28–7 record, and a 2023 ACC regular-season championship, marking the program’s first since 2019. Under Ivey, Notre Dame has 15 ranked wins since 2022–23, including victories over No. 3 UConn, No. 5 Virginia Tech, and No. 3 NC State. Her teams average 78.6 PPG which is the 10th-best in program history. Ivey earned 2023 ACC Coach of the Year honors after overcoming injuries to key players and leading a projected fourth-place team to first. She also signed three top-20 recruits in 2023.
