Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 player in the country, has been heavily linked to a potential move to the University of Texas. On Tuesday, On3 Recruits shared a post on X regarding the recruitment update of the five star guard which sparked widespread speculation among fans.
"Texas has captured the momentum for 5-star PG Aaliyah Chavez, per @TaliaGoodmanWBB 🤘👀 Chavez is the No. 1 ranked prospect in the 2025 class," the post read.
College basketball fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the latest development. Many questioned Aaliyah Chavez's decision-making if she potentially joined the Texas Longhorns.
"Not a smart decision young lady," one fan wrote.
"If she doesn’t want to be great, that’s her business," another X user commented.
"Means nothing because Kim & G gets last visit and we know how that normally ends up, plus why play for a coach who has a BAD OFFENSE when you can build your name & brand plus win NATTY's at LSU‼️‼️‼️," one fan commented.
"Doesn’t Texas already have Rori and Bryanna as points guards?" one fan questioned.
"The entire city of Lubbock will be on fire and it will be great to watch 🤣🤣🤣" another fan joked.
On the other hand, there were a few comments that were supportive of the young star's potential move to the Lone Star State program.
"would be a good fit.." one fan commented.
"We’re so back Texas vs everybody man," another fan added.
Aaliyah Chavez says stable coaching staff a factor in her college decision
Although the Texas Longhorns are reportedly leading in the pursuit of Aailyan Chavez, she has not yet made any commitment. The 5-foot-9 athlete went on an unofficial visit to Austin last fall and is planning on a second visit this coming month.
"They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in. They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day too and they always have high energy," Aaliyah said
Besides Vic Schaefer's team, four other top schools Oklahoma, Texas Tech, South Carolina and UCLA are reportedly serious contenders for her commitment.
Earlier this summer, Aaliyah Chavez shared the major factor she is considering while choosing a college.
"I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time," Aaliyah told On3. "I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years."
Schaefer might tick the box for Aaliyah's coaching preference, having been with the Longhorns for over four years.
