The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is the women's basketball team representing the University of Notre Dame in the NCAA Division I Basketball. They compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Fighting Irish women’s team was established in 1977 and plays their home games at Edmund P. Joyce Center, which has a capacity of 9,149 fans. Notre Dame won two NCAA Tournament Championships in 2001 and 2018 and made 29 appearances. They won the MCC conference five times in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1994, the ACC conference six times, in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2024, and a Big East Championship in 2013. The Fighting Irish earned the North Star Conference regular season championships twice in 1985 and 1986.

Niele Ivey is the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s team for the 2024–2025 season. Ivey has been their head coach since 2020. She has an overall record of 89-32, an ACC Tournament championship, and three straight Sweet 16 qualifications, as of the 2023-2024 season. During the 2023-2024 season, Notre Dame posted a 28-7 record, won the ACC Tournament championship, and defeated top-ranked opponents such as UConn and Virginia Tech. Ivey was an assistant coach at Notre Dame from 2007-2019, helping them qualify for the Final Four and the 2018 national championship. Since becoming a head coach, she led the team to two ACC regular season championships in 2023 and 2025 and an ACC tournament championship in 2024. For her remarkable coaching career, she earned the ACC Coach of the Year award in 2023.

Associate Head Coach
Carol Owens is the Associate Head Coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team. Owens was made Associate Coach for the Fighting Irish in 2010. Prior to this, she was the assistant coach of the Fighting Irish for 10 years. Owens was the head coach at Northern Illinois from 2005-2010, where she also played basketball during her collegiate career. Owens was also the assistant coach at Michigan.
