Oklahoma approaches the 2024-25 college basketball season looking to help fourth-year coach Porter Moser secure his first NCAA Tournament appearance since taking the reins as head tactician in 2021.
Moser, who guided Loyola Chicago to the Final Four in the 2017-18 season, parades a rag-tag roster composed of six returnees, five transfers and four freshmen, who are determined to lead the Sooners to the top of the SEC in its maiden season with the conference.
Here's a closer look into Oklahoma's upcoming campaign from its biggest games to key players to watch out for and its projected win-loss record for the 2024-25 season.
Oklahoma's biggest games in the 2024-25 season
Oklahoma will have a tricky schedule this season, beginning with its Battle 4 Atlantis stint in the Bahamas on Nov. 27-29. They will compete against formidable Division I schools in Arizona, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville, Providence and West Virginia. The complete schedule of the tournament will be announced at a later date.
Four days after their trip to Bahamas, the Sooners play host to Georgia Tech as part of the ACC-SEC Challenge. Weeks later, they face Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Series on Dec. 14 and Michigan on Dec. 18 for the Jumpman Invitational.
As for its SEC regular season schedule, Oklahoma will play Missouri, Texas and Texas A&M in home and away games. The Sooners are set to host Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt at the Lloyd Noble Center and visit Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss.
Conference play begins on January 4 and ends on March 8. The SEC Tournament will be on March 12-16 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
#1. Jalon Moore
Jalon Moore is the Oklahoma's third-leading scorer and his return is a shot in the arm for the Porter Moser-coached Sooners. The Georgia Tech transfer started in all 31 games for Oklahoma where he averaged 11.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 25.6 minutes last season.
The 6-7 forward out of Birmingham, Alabama would remain as a major contributor this year for the Sooners, who beefed up their roster with a ton of scorers to fill up the void left off by Javian McCollum, Otega Oweh and Milos Uzan.
#2. Brycen Goodine
Brycen Goodine will play for his fourth team in six seasons after stints with Syracuse, Providence and Fairfield. Goodine had a breakout fifth season with the Stags, playing 31 games (seven starts) and tallying 13.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.4 apg and 0.8 spg in 25.9 minutes per contest.
Goodine shot 49.8% from the field, including 46.7% from the 3-point line. He is expected to be Oklahoma's top long-range shooter that could give its SEC rivals something to think about when they employ zone defense against the Sooners.
#3. Duke Miles
Duke Miles is coming off a spectacular season with the High Point Panthers, where he averaged 17.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals. The six-foot-three junior shot a career-high 52.8% from the field this past season, including a 36.1% clip from the 3-point area.
Miles also made 80.1% of his free throws during his stint with High Point. He's expected to carry the offensive load for Oklahoma in this year's NCAA men's basketball campaign.
Oklahoma's predictions for the 2024-25 season
As far as fans can marvel about Oklahoma's lineup this season, it remains to be seen if they can excel in the formidable SEC. One thing is for sure though, the Sooners are ready to fight for their school's pride.
Porter Moser has a team that could win around 20-22 games when healthy as they can force surprise wins in the tough conference. They'll have an outside chance in the 2025 NCAA Tournament if they make it to 22-9 and be one of the semifinalists in the SEC Tournament.
