Following his prep career, the four-star rated recruit verbally committed to Gonzaga Bulldogs over offers from Arizona and Baylor.

Ballo redshirted his freshman season during his first year with the program. The following year as a redshirt freshman, Ballo averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game and decided to enter the transfer portal to join Arizona Wildcats for his sophomore season. For the next three years, Ballo was established as a starter for the program and was a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection. In his breakout 2022-23 campaign, Ballo averaged 14.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 35 games for the Wildcats. Last season, he averaged 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds this season while shooting nearly 66% from the field. After three seasons with the program, Ballo entered the transfer portal for the second time to commit to Indiana Hoosiers for his sixth and final season of college basketball.
