UConn Huskies guard Paige Bueckers made history in her team's 96-36 blowout win against the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday. She became the fastest-ever Huskies player to reach 2,000 career points, doing it in just 102 games, six fewer than WNBA legend Maya Moore.
Bueckers nailed the milestone with a jump shot at the 8:05 mark of the second quarter, which gave her 2,001 career markers. The Hopkins, Minnesota native eventually finished the Big East conference matchup with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, two rebounds, seven assists and a steal in 23 minutes.
In the postgame interview with the SNY channel, Paige Bueckers shared her thoughts on adding another accolade to her already standout collegiate stint under the tutelage of UConn coach Geno Auriemma.
"It means everything, but it takes a village. I did not get here by myself. It's funny, I have my pilates instructor here, Brooke, who came to a game...It's just people like my coach, teammates (and) everybody who's invested in me and stayed with me," Bueckers said. (Timestamp: 0:28)
"I had a tough journey, but it's been a beautiful journey. I've seen so many people invest and do a lot for me. I just really want to reward their hard work because everybody sees the 2,000 points, but nobody sees the 2,000 days of hard work. So, it's just a testimony to everybody who's invested in me," she further added.
With this being her final college season with the Huskies, Bueckers' ultimate goal is to win the NCAA national championship. UConn has an incredible momentum that could push them into a deep post-season run.
Paige Bueckers asserts she is still thinking about her misses over the shot that gave her 2,000 points
It's been long discovered that Paige Bueckers values her efficiency in her field goal percentage the most, as she is always focused on maintaining a high average. She only had four misses in ten shots on Sunday, but the senior sensation still says that she is thinking about working on those more than celebrating the middle jumper that gave her 2,001 career points.
"Nah (on thinking about the make more than the misses), I'm thinking about two missed threes, the missed 45 cut I had. I'm missing a miss but, I keep them all in mind," Bueckers shared. (1:10)
Paige Bueckers and the rest of the UConn Huskies now possess a commanding 8-0 record in conference play as they aim to stay undefeated with win No. 9 against the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in their home arena.
