Upon graduating high school, Serena Sundell enrolled with Kansas State University and joined the Kansas State Wildcats women's basketball program. Sundell averaged a team-high 32.3 minutes per game during her first season, starting all 33 games. In the history of the K-State program, she was the only freshman to have 350 points, 175 assists, and 100 rebounds or more. In 19 games, she scored in double figures, including four in which she scored 20 points or more. As a sophomore, Sundell was the only Wildcat to start all 36 games in the 2022–2023 season. With a career-best 157-of-321 field goals, she scored a career-high 501 points (13.9 ppg). In her sophomore year, she became the seventh Wildcat in program history to score 500 points or more. As of January 2025, Sundell is the only player in K-State's women's basketball history to accumulate 1,000 or more career points, 500 or more assists, and 50 or more blocks.
