Sophomore standout Mikaylah Williams had herself a night in LSU's 91-64 drubbing of Seton Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 17. In 33 minutes played, Williams tallied 22 points on 50% shooting, that includes a 6-for-11 clip from the three-point arc, five rebounds and assists apiece to go with a lone steal.
She stepped her game up against the Pirates for the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase fixture that resulted in the Tigers 13th straight victory of the season. Fans on social media have since been showing her love for such an outing.
"Mikaylah williams!!! Da goods," NBA All-Star Ja Morant said.
"Mikaylah Williams is easily one of the best 3PT shooters in the country. Top 3-5 imo (in my opinion). And, I said what I said," one fan shared.
"Why I see a lil' Maya Moore in Mikaylah Williams #LSU," another user wrote.
Others have since compared her to college women's basketball standouts this season, as she is expected to be in the mix for a potential National Player of the Year bid.
"She might bet better than JuJu ngl (not gonna lie) this season, convincing me," a user posted.
"Her only peer in her class is Hannah (Hidalgo)," another user captioned.
"Mikaylah Williams is really pushing to be the No. 1 player in her draft class. Same recruiting class as JuJu Watkins and Hannah Hidalgo. Williams keeps scoring like this — she’ll make a damning case," one user stated.
As the season enters its conference play stage, Williams must work towards sustaining her play to stay afloat of being ranked No. 1 in her class that could include the likes of the aforementioned JuJu Watkins and Hannah Hidalgo.
She is making a formidable case with her campaign, dropping 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Williams will have the chance to improve her averages when LSU takes on the UIC Flames on Thursday, Dec. 19, in their opponent's homefloor.
Mikaylah Williams is adding more facets to her game, HC Kim Mulkey says
During the post-game press conference, LSU coach Kim Mulkey shared that coming into the 2024-2025 season, Williams was challenging herself to add more dimensions to her skills. The 2023 national champion coach said:
"She's played inside with Aneesah this year when we've got small. She's a confident player."
With how Williams has been able to perform as a three-level threat this year, scoring at will inside and knocking it down from the outside, it's safe to say that she is living up to that challenge.
