Sion James is a guard for the Duke Blue Devils and plays as a graduate student for the 2024-2025 season. Before joining the Blue Devils, James spent four years at Tulane Green Wave from 2020 to 2024. He played 114 games and started in 107. James appeared in more than 34 minutes a game and scored 1,084 points, 520 rebounds, 337 assists, and 187 steals. His averages increased every year, with his best figures of 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in the 2023-2024 season. His shot accuracy was 51.4 % from the field and 38.1% from three-pointer range, including 23 blocks. James scored over 20 points in six games throughout the 2023-2024 season, registering 28 points on a double-double against North Texas in the second round of the AAC Tournament on March 14. His career-high performance was against Memphis in January when he scored 30 points and seven steals. At the 2022 AAC Tournament, James made six blocks against Wichita State and became the first player to receive the AAC Sportsmanship Award twice, in 2023 and 2024. He was also a member of the AAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years and contributed over 350 hours of community service.

He transferred to Duke in the summer of 2024 for his final season of eligibility. As of March 2025, James has posted 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per contest for the Blue Devils (via ESPN).
