After wrapping up his collegiate playing career in the 2022-2023 season, Connor McCaffery is going through his first stint as a Butler Bulldogs assistant coach. The player-turned-coach last played for the Iowa Hawkeyes and has now helped his new squad to a 7-6 record so far in the 2024-2025 season.
Sophomore Augusto Cassia, who reposted a video from McCaffery's Instagram which showcased the end of his college hoops days with the following caption:
"GOAT," Cassia captioned on his story.
The 26-year-old tactitian then reposted Cassia's upload on his own story with a caption that reads:
"Stop playing with me @gutto.cassia." along with a laughter emoji.
Fifth-year senior Jahmyl Telfort then went on to join the fun as well, reposting the same video on his account with a sarcastic caption.
"'Respect your elders' @connor_m30," he wrote.
McCaffery also responded to Telfort's story to acknowledge him adding on to the friendly banter.
"Now, it's you too," he said on his Instagram story along with laughing emojis.
There is no doubt now that McCaffery is becoming more and more comfortable with his newfound team and career path. While the 7-6 standing is not eye-catching, there is optimism that the 2024-2025 Butler Bulldogs can look past this and uncork a better record with their budding team chemistry and synergy.
Coming off a close loss to the UConn Huskies on Saturday, 78-74, McCaffery and the rest of the Butler Bulldogs will look to use the break to revitalize themselves and come through with a win against the Villanova Wildcats on the first day of 2025.
