Szymon Zapala plays college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans men's basketball in the Big Ten Conference. Zapala is in his senior year as of February 2025 and plays as a center. Zapala started his collegiate career with the Utah State Aggies in 2020/21. He stayed with them till his junior season. Zapala moved to Longwood Lancers in the 2023/24 season after redshirting his junior year with the Aggies. Zapala joined Michigan State Spartans at the beginning of the 2024/25 season as a senior after one season with the Lancers.
As a freshman, Zapala appeared in 13 games and made his Aggie debut in the season opener against VCU. As a sophomore, he played 21 games and as a junior, he took part in 11 games before his season was over. During his one season there, Zapala helped lead Longwood University in Virginia to a 21-14 record, which helped the Lancers win the Big South Championship and make it to the NCAA Tournament. Zapala participated in the 2019 U18 FIBA European Championships as a member of the Polish national team.
