Tennessee Preview
It has been a tough two games for the Tennessee Volunteers. They lost the SEC Tournament championship game to Missouri and barely defeated LA-Lafayette in the first round of March Madness 2023.
In the Volunteers' 58-55 win over the Ragin' Cajuns, only two players scored in double figures. Tyreke Key scored 12 points off the bench, while Jahmai Mashack had 11 points, one rebound and three assists.
Tennessee's offense has not been great this season, ranking just 62nd among the teams in the NCAA tournament. It has always been their defense, which ha been second in the nation all season long.
Duke Preview
Duke is riding a ten-game winning streak heading into their second-round matchup with Tennessee on Saturday (Mar. 18). The Blue Devils are coming off a facile 74-51 win over Oral Roberts in the first round of March Madness 2023.
Jeremy Roach led Duke with 23 points, two rebounds and three assists, while Dariq Whitehead contributed 13 points and four rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Blue Devils shot 48.4% from the field and outrebounded the Golden Eagles 46-32.
The Blue Devils have more star power on their roster than Tennessee. However, they're just 15th in the nation on defense and just 41st on offense. It would be interesting to see if freshman Kyle Filipowski will have a big game against the Volunteers after a quiet six-point, nine-rebound performance on Thursday.
Tennessee vs Duke Prediction
The Tennessee Volunteers are predicted to beat the Duke Blue Devils and advance to the Sweet 16, as per Oddsshark. However, Duke has the momentum on their side, as they're on a ten-game winning streak.
