The Texas Longhorns represent the University of Texas at Austin in collegiate level basketball. The team began competing at the varsity intercollegiate level in 1906. The team competes in the Big-12 Conference. The Texas Longhorns have one national championship to their name. In 1933, the Texas Longhorns basketball team won the Premo-Porretta Power Poll national championship, which was considered the national championship before the establishment of the NCAA Tournament.

The Texas Longhorns have also won three Big-12 Conference championships in 1999, 2006, and 2008. They have a total of 17th rank in total victories among all NCAA Division I college basketball programs. Their all-time win percentage among programs with at least 60 years in Division I ranks 27th.

Texas Basketball Head Coach 2024

Rodney Terry has been the head coach of the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team since 2023. He joined the University of Texas as an assistant coach of their basketball team in 2021.

In 2022, he was promoted to interim head coach and on March 27, 2023, Terry was named the full-time head coach. Prior to joining Texas, Rodney was the head coach of the University of Texas at El Paso men's basketball team from 2018 to 2021.

Terry began his coaching career as an assistant coach at St. Edward's in the 1990–91 season. He graduated from Angleton High School and played college basketball at St. Edward's University in Austin.

Assistant Coach

Frank Haith, Steve McClain, Brandon Chappell, Byron Jones, and Cory Schlesinger are the assistant coaches of the Texas Longhorns basketball team as of November 2024. Frank Haith joined Texas in 2023 as an assistant coach. However, he previously worked with Texas and served as an assistant for three seasons from 2001-02 through 2003-04. Before joining Texas in 2023, he was the assistant coach of Memphis School. Steve McClain joined Texas in 2022 as a Special Assistant to the Head Coach and in 2023, he took on the role of Assistant Coach. Brandon Chappell has been an assistant coach for the Texas basketball team since 2022. Prior to this, he was an assistant coach at UNLV school from 2021 to 2022. Byron Jones joined Texas in 2023 and before that, he was an Assistant Coach at Troy University from 2020-2023.
