College basketball fans were impressed with UConn star Paige Bueckers' latest performance against Georgetown on Sunday. Bueckers finished with 24 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field, leading the No. 2-ranked Huskies to a dominant 79-44 win over the Hoyas in its Big East Conference regular season opener.
The 6-foot native of Hopkins, Minnesota, added two rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks in 28 minutes of action for Geno Auriemma's squad.
A college basketball enthusiast noted in a post on X that Bueckers confidently takes open shots, contrasting it with current NBA players who often make emergency passes as the clock winds down.
"This is what the NBA lacks right now … ppl taking open shots instead of passing it till it’s 2 left on the shot clock ..," the college basketball fan wrote on X.
Another follower of women's college basketball expressed excitement about the possibility of Paige Bueckers joining the WNBA right after the 2024-25 season ends
"Can’t wait to see her go pro! 🫡," the fan added.
Other fans lauded her performance on the court.
"Love that mid-range game. 🔥 🏀," one social media follower said.
"She has the midrange all day. Unusual in today’s talent. She needs to use it to start getting to the basket more," a women's college hoops junkie wrote.
"Her efficiency >>>>," another fan added.
"She nice as hell plays defense can pass and can score from anywhere the guard play about to be great from years to come," a college basketball enthusiast said.
However, some fans accused Paige Bueckers of stat padding during the game, but other basketball enthusiasts were quick to defend her against these criticisms.
"Padding stats while up 30. 🙄," a fan wrote.
"When you are up by 30 halfway through the 3rd and you're still playing, that's called stat padding people...," another user reacted.
"Juju still playing up forty against Elon at the end of the third, they are all stat padding trying to be the next. Joke," a college basketball fan noted.
Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong lead UConn to 9-1 start in 2024-25 women's college basketball season
The No. 2-ranked UConn Huskies are off to a strong 9-1 start in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season, thanks to stellar performances by senior guard Paige Bueckers and freshman forward Sarah Strong. Bueckers and Strong have shouldered the load for the Huskies, showing no signs of slowing down.
Now in her fifth year, Bueckers is averaging 20.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game for UConn. She's been incredibly efficient, making 57.6% of her shots while averaging only 1.4 turnovers per game.
Strong, who is ranked as the No. 1 college freshman in the Class of 2024, is contributing 16.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 3.6 apg, 2.3 spg and 1.5 bpg. Like Bueckers, she has kept her turnovers low, with just 1.4 per game, and is shooting 56.1% from the field.
Guard Azzi Fudd, rebounding from an injury-plagued 2023-24 season, is also contributing significantly, averaging 10.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 1.8 apg. Fudd is expected to play a key role in the Huskies' offense as a third option if Bueckers and Strong are heavily guarded.
UConn will return to the court two days after their victory over Georgetown to face Iowa State in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Tuesday night.
