The Big Ten is one of the biggest conferences in collegiate athletics. It is the oldest Division I conference in the United States, boasting several years of rich history in the landscape. It is also one of the most financially buoyant over the last few years.

While the Big Ten hasn't performed well in basketball since the turn of the century, the league has some solid history in the NCAA Tournament. Here's a look at the conference's team with the most national championship titles.

Top 3 Big Ten teams with the most NCAA Tournament titles

#1, UCLA

UCLA is the most successful program in men’s college basketball. The Big Ten newcomer has won the most NCAA Tournaments with an astonishing 11 victories. While they haven’t been dominant in recent history, their giant strides in the past are unforgettable.

The Bruins won seven consecutive national titles from 1967 to 1973. They also won 10 in 12 years from 1964 to 1975, missing out on the 1966 and 1974 editions. Their last national title success came in 1995.

In its entire history, the program has been runner-up in the NCAA Tournament twice. It played in the Final Four 19 times and made 22 Elite Eight appearances.

#2, Indiana

Indiana boasts one of the most successful programs in college basketball history. Unlike UCLA who won all their national titles outside the Big Ten, the Hoosiers have claimed all their NCAA Tournament in the conference.

While the program hasn't been a force in recent basketball history, it boasts five NCAA Tournament titles (1940, 1953, 1976, 1981 and 1987). They've also been runner-up once, made eight Final Four appearances and played in 11 Elite Eight.

The Hoosiers rank sixth in NCAA Tournament appearances (41) and seventh in most victories in the competition (68).

#3, Michigan State

Michigan State is another Big Ten college basketball program with multiple NCAA Tournament titles. The Spartans have been a March Madness regular in the last couple of years and boast two national titles (1979 and 2000).

The Spartans have also ended as a runner-up in the NCAA Tournament once. They made 10 Final Four appearances and have played in the Elite Eight 14 times

The program has participated in 37 NCAA Tournaments, tying for the 10th-most all-time appearance in history. They’ve also appeared in 26 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, the third-longest streak ever and the longest active streak in college basketball.
