The SEC is one of college basketball's dominant conferences. The league has had strong programs that have frequently contended for the national titles over the years. It's also a conference that possesses intense competition within itself.

Over time, a host of Southeastern Conference teams have ruled the college basketball landscape by claiming the NCAA Tournament title. Here's a look at the conference teams with the most national championship titles.

Top 3 SEC teams with the most NCAA Tournament titles

#1, Kentucky

Kentucky has been one of the best teams in college basketball history. The program has the best winning percentage and also boasts the most wins in collegiate basketball.

The Wildcats have won the national championship eight times, the second most by any program in history. They won the title in 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, 1998 and most recently in 2012.

They've also ended as runners-up four times, reached the Final Four 17 times and played in the Elite Eight a total of 34 times.

#2, Florida

While Florida had its basketball team in 1915, the program did not achieve prominence until the 21st century. It struggled with a host of challenges for several decades, finding itself among the lowest-ranked teams in the SEC before transitioning to the pinnacle of the game.

The Gators boast two national championship titles, which were won consecutively in 2006 and 2007 under the leadership of Billy Donovan. This tied them ninth all-time among basketball programs with the most national titles.

The program has also lost the national championship game once, played in the Final Four five times and made nine Elite Eight appearances.

#3, Arkansas

Arkansas is the other SEC basketball team with a national championship. The university first had a basketball team in 1923 and didn't achieve much in the early years. They eventually reached the pinnacle of the game during the 1990s.

The Razorback boasts only one national title, winning it in 1994 under Nolan Richardson with a 76-72 win against Duke. However, they lost the national championship game the following year to UCLA.

The program boasts six Final Four appearances with three coming in the 1990s. They've also played in the Elite Eight 10 times, showcasing their relative success in college basketball.
