When it comes to the 3-point line, the present-day talent is probably the most equipped from the long range. That's primarily due to the gradual increase in the use of the arc in college and global basketball through the last decade.
The previous year, Big Ten’s UConn Huskies benefitted the most from the trey and stormed to a consecutive title. They ranked first in field goal efficiency and held their opponents to less than 30% on the outside side in the conference.
With that, let's look at the top five shooters the Big Ten conference will exhibit in the 2024-25 season.
Top 3-point shooters in Big Ten entering the 2024-25 season
#5 Max Klesmit
A six-foot-three guard came to the Badgers after leading Wofford as the second-best and averaging 14.9 points on 44.6% efficiency.
The former SEC All-Freshman Team honoree made it to the primary lineup at Wisconsin mostly due to his off-ball movement and production. Moreover, he can also distribute the ball when the situation demands.
Klesmit can maneuver screens to ease into his shot and is a shooting threat from all areas on the floor. He might get more shot opportunities this season due to his increased ball handling, which would highlight his 3-point acumen.
Klesmit's 3-point percentage last season - 39.8% on 166 attempts
#4 Ben Humrichous
Humrichous has the perfect balance in his 3-point shots and the attempts he takes inside the arc while shooting 48.4% from the floor. He has an array of moves in his bag and can maintain high efficiency even when taking high-volume shots.
Humrichous rarely gets uncontested opportunities, but his fundamentals allow him to regularly convert tough shots. He's also a great screener who can pop out of the action for a set jumper or to exploit open lanes.
Humrichous' 3-point percentage last season - 41.4% on 128 attempts
#3 Ty Berry
Berry displayed his best season last year, averaging 11.6 points on 44.9% shooting alongside similar numbers that ranked him seventh in the Big Ten in the previous season. He has great court awareness, can exploit lanes, find open teammates and likes taking most of his shots from behind the arc.
Berry scored his career-high 26 points on the road and will suit up for his final season in the coming stretch.
Berry’s 3-point percentage last season - 43.3% on 127 attempts
#2 Steven Crowl
The modern-day big man can make point-guard-like passes, has the IQ of a floor general and can do more than just play with his back to the basket. The seven-footer can shoot it off the catch, has developed enough to hit jumpers off the dribble and can utilize his frame for a step back.
Moreover, Crowl can also bring the ball up the floor, which provides him with enough opportunities to score. While his scoring declined slightly last season, it helped him in garnering a 55% shot efficiency from the floor.
Crowl's 3-point percentage last season - 44.8% on 58 attempts
#1 John Blackwell
The six-foot-four guard is usually expected to bring his defensive intensity to games. However, he also brings one-of-a-kind efficiency. He has a great vision to create space for himself and his teammates and is a great perimeter shooter.
The first-year player averaged a little under 19 minutes for the Badgers last season, making 44.6% of his shots. Expect him to shine this season as he garners more minutes.
Blackwell’s 3-point percentage last season - 45.5% on 95 attempts
