He signed with Löwen Braunschweig in August 2024. Mitchell attended Elizabeth Forward High School but later transferred to Woodstock Academy in Connecticut. As a senior, he was named the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and Power 5 Conference AAA Player of the Year. Graduating as a four-star recruit, he received scholarships from Indiana, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Providence, among others.

Mitchell opted for the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2019-2021. In his two seasons with the program, he totaled 792 points and 315 rebounds.
