As of 2024, Trey Kaufman-Renn is a forward for the Purdue Boilermakers of the Big Ten Conference. Kaufman-Renn attended Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Indiana. While he was there, he became Silver Creek's all-time leading scorer. In his junior year, he averaged 25.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game, according to the official website of the Purdue Boilermakers. Kaufman-Renn helped Silver Creek capture two 3A state championships. By the end of his senior season, he averaged 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. To play collegiate basketball at Purdue University, Kaufman-Renn, a four-star prospect, declined offers from Indiana, North Carolina, and Virginia, among others.

In 2022-23, Kaufman-Renn had a great debut season, averaging 4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game, according to ESPN. His accomplishments earned him a spot on the Big Ten's All-Academic Team. During his stellar sophomore season, he started all 39 games and averaged 6.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in 17.0 minutes per game. In eight postseason games, Kaufman-Renn averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds while playing 17.5 minutes.
