Tristen Newton is an American college basketball player. He is primarily recognized for his ability as a playmaker. Newton was born in Florida but raised in Texas as he attended Burges High School which marked the beginning of his basketball life. In high school, Newton was known as an offensive powerhouse leading his school by scoring an astonishing 37 points per game.

Newton went on to play college basketball for East Carolina University and later transferred to the University of Connecticut. He was with East Carolina for a period of three years where he established himself as one of the team’s best players. He performed well statistically and was eventually named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team.

Sighting a coaching change as a principal reason, Newton transferred to UConn. He was named a starter at UConn and immediately impacted the team with overall performances. Being appreciated as a player who does a little bit of everything on the floor, Newton played a crucial role in guiding UConn to their 5th NCAA championship title. Newton declared for the NBA draft but decided to return for another year of college basketball at UConn. He led the team to win the NCAA championship yet again, over Purdue University. His performance significantly gave him a better image in the eyes of scouts and increased his draft stock. He earned multiple accolades such as the Bob Cousy Award and Consensus All-America First Team honours.
