Paige Bueckers joined Flau'jae Johnson on her "Best of Both Worlds" podcast in August, and the two guards discussed their game on-court and off it. While talking about their performances, Johnson asked Bueckers to name her best moment on the court. The UConn guard said:
"I would probably say my freshman year when we played South Carolina at home. I was going kind of crazy. But we were up to maybe, like, 20, 30 seconds left. That was the end of the shot clock.
"I caught the ball at the top of the key. I kind of just chucked it up. When I shot it, I was like, 'That's cash.' I knew it was going in, but it hit the back of the rim and, like, bounced up 10 feet in the air and dropped. And then we went up five or four, and it was over with." (From 23:45)
The game Paige Bueckers is referring to was the nonconference tip-off between UConn and South Carolina on Feb. 8, 2021. The closely contested game extended to overtime with 54-54 on the scoreboard.
Bueckers led the scoring in overtime as she made two free throws, one jumper and the final game-winning 3-pointer, assisted by Olivia Nelson-Ododa, which she mentioned to Flau'jae Johnson. Bueckers finished with 31 points, four rebounds, five assists and six steals.
Paige Bueckers recalls her college journey, equating it to one word
Through her four years at UConn, Paige Bueckers has led the team to a championship game and one Final Four while also battling back-to-back injuries. She sustained a leg injury during her sophomore year and an ACL tear in her junior year.
Reminiscing on her college journey, Bueckers revealed how she would like to be remembered.
"Just being resilient," the UConn guard said. "I've gone through a lot of stuff since I've been at college, just like injuries and adversity. But just being resilient, being a winner, being a great teammate, great leader, I think being the best teammate I could be is like the most important thing for me.
"And just being someone that would do anything for the program, rep the program proud. Did great things on and off the floor for the communities. Just being a great human being along with being a great basketball player, but a lot."
The upcoming season will be her final one with the Huskies, and she is looking forward to ending it on a high by winning the NCAA championship.
