The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team competes in the Big East Conference and was established in the 1974-75 season. In the past decade, they have been a mainstay in the battle for Big East and national championships.

Under head coach Geno Auriemma, the UConn women’s basketball team has won 11 NCAA Championships and 30 regular season titles. The home games are played at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut.

The eight-time Naismith Coach of the Year, Geno Auriemma, has been at the helm of the UConn women’s basketball team since 1985. He became the most winningest coach in the NCAA history after he registered his 1,217th win for the Huskies.

In his 40 seasons with the Huskies, Auriemma has led them to 11 National Championships and nearly two dozen Final Four appearances. Auriemma is credited for transforming UConn into a national basketball powerhouse.

Associate Head Coach

Chris Dailey joined Auriemma’s coaching staff in 1985 as an assistant coach before earning her promotion as associate head coach in 1988 She was inducted to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 for her contributions in helping UConn become a national power. Before arriving in Connecticut, Dailey made stops at Rutgers and Cornell.

Assistant Coaches

Jamelle Elliott, Morgan Valley, Tonya Cardoza, and Tonya Cardoza are the four assistant coaches of the UConn women’s basketball team. Jamelle Elliott is in her second stint with the Huskies as she was previously on Auriemma’s coaching staff from 1998 to 2009 before rejoining in 2020. She served as the head coach for the Cincinnati Bearcats from 2009 to 2018.

Morgan Valley has entered her fourth season in 2024 on the Huskies’ coaching staff. She also had coaching stints at Arizona, Washington, Virginia Tech, UMass, Towson and several other programs.

Tonya Cardoza is serving her second stint as an assistant coach on the UConn staff. She was part of the coaching staff from 1994-2008 before she served as the head coach at Temple from 2008-2022.

Ben Kantor who joined Auriemma’s coaching staff in 2015 was elevated to his current position during the 2023-24 season. Prior to his arrival at UConn, she worked as an assistant coach at Houston Baptist and Colgate and as a video coordinator at Memphis.
