The Utah Utes is the men's basketball team representing the University of Utah in the NCAA Division I Basketball. They compete in the Pac-12 Conference. The team was established in 1908 and appeared in 29 NCAA tournaments, among which they won the national championship in 1944. They qualified in the Final Four four times and were the runner-up in 1998. The program won five Mountain West, 12 WAC championships, eight Mountain States Conference, and four Rocky Mountain Conference. Major alumni include the 2005 NBA draft first overall Andre Miller, along with Keith Van Horn and Australian, Andrew Bogut.

Craig Smith is the head coach of the Utah Utes for the 2024–2025 season. Smith is in his fourth season with the Utes. He also coached Utah State from 2018 to 2021 and led the Aggies to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and two Mountain West Tournament titles. Under Smith, the Utah Utes has a 58–56 record, as of January 2025. Throughout Smith's coaching career, he won 283 games and was awarded the NAIA Division II Coach of the Year in 2007, DAC Coach of the Year twice in 2006 and 2007, Summit League Coach of the Year in 2017, and MWC Coach of the Year in 2019. His teams have won two DAC regular season Championships in 2006 and 2007, two DAC tournaments in 2006 and 2007, Summit League regular season Championships in 2017, MWC regular season in 2019, and two MWC tournaments in 2019 and 2020.
