Clayton registered 42 straight free throws with a throw percentage of 87.7%, placing him among the top 10 players in the school’s history. He scored 33 points against Colorado in the NCAA Tournament which was the second-highest total in Florida history. During the SEC Tournament, Clayton averaged 18.5 points per game and led the team to the championship game.

Walter Clayton Jr. played for the Iona Gaels Basketball Team during the 2022-2023 season. Clayton led the team to the regular season and conference tournament championships while starting in 31 of 32 games. He scored a total of 538 points with an average of 16.8 points per game, which placed him third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Clayton was the country's best free throw percentage shooter with an accuracy of 95.3%. He also shot 72 three-pointers and had 103 assists, 136 rebounds, and 59 steals. His remarkable performance was against Niagara, scoring 30 points and two double-doubles. In the NCAA Tournament, Clayton added 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. As a freshman in the 2021-2022 season, Walter played in 32 games, starting four, and scored 233 points. He averaged 7.3 points per game in assisting Iona to a regular season title and also qualified for the NIT Tournament. Clayton was notable against Delaware, scoring 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
