High-scoring Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo added another highlight reel to her young career, burying two straight 3-pointers and a steal off Paige Bueckers during the first quarter of the Fighting Irish's game against UConn in the Shamrock Classic on Thursday at the Purcell Pavilion.

With the Huskies leading 10-9 early in the first period, the 5-foot-6 sophomore knocked down a 3-pointer that gave the Fighting Irish a 12-10 lead with 1:39 left in the quarter.

In the succeeding play, Hidalgo took away the leather from Paige Bueckers, then launched a pull-up trifecta on the transition with 1:18 remaining that caused fans at South Bend to erupt.

The play gave Notre Dame a 15-10 advantage that forced Geno Auriemma to call a timeout to calm the tense nerves of his players as the crowd basked on Hidalgo's big-time play.

Hannah Hidalgo brings flair and fire for Notre Dame in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season

Notre Dame shooting guard Hannah Hidalgo has given Notre Dame faithful something to rave about since coming to South Bend in 2023. In her first season, Hidalgo averaged 22.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and an amazing 4.6 steals in 35 games last year.

She guided Notre Dame to the second seed in the Albany Regionals 1 in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Irish beat Kent State and Ole Miss in the first two rounds before succumbing to Oregon Statem 70-65 in the Sweet 16.

In nine games, the 5-foot-6 guard out of New Jersey is averaging 24.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 4.1 steals per contest, leading the much stronger Notre Dame to a 7-2 mark.

Just like her freshman year, she has continued to impress at both ends of the court. Notre Dame's opponents have been forced to think twice on what defense to employ to stop the pesky guard from scoring points in bunches.

And on the defensive end, Hidalgo is a menace off the dribble, swiping away penetration attempts just like what she did against Bueckers.

Hannah Hidalgo is the heart and soul of this Fighting Irish's offense and she forms a deadly combination with Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron, Liatu King and Kate Koval. They are expected to dominate the ACC in the 2024-25 regular season.
