College hoops star Paige Bueckers starred in UConn's 67-41 routing of Providence on Sunday. Bueckers finished 2024 off with an impressive outing of 23 points on an uber-efficient 8 out of 12 shooting to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
After a few lackluster performances to start the season, Bueckers may have gotten her groove back and it bodes well for the Huskies with the start of conference play upon them. Fans on social media have expressed their support for the senior sensation by leaving comments on a post from the UConn Huskies Women's Basketball official Instagram page.
"Close enough, welcome back Diana Taurasi," one fan wrote.
"It's the efficiency for me," another fan said.
"Let's go PB5," one user wrote along with clapping emojis.
"PAIGEYYYY," an Instagram user wrote.
"Shoutout to the GOAT!," one user posted.
"Queen," a user commented.
"A walking bucket," another fan said along with fire emojis.
Before the victory over Providence, Bueckers and the Huskies succumbed to the USC Trojans, 72-70, on December 21. In a highly-touted matchup against sophomore JuJu Watkins, Bueckers was outperformed as her matchup had 25 points on 56.25% shooting as opposed to the UConn standout's 22 points on 40.9% shooting.
Opening the games after the holiday break with win No.11, the Geno Auriemma-coached squad will look to sustain their momentum with another triumph against the Marquette Golden Eagles on Wednesday.
Paige Bueckers looking to cement her UConn legacy with a national title like Diana Taurasi
Diana Taurasi is considered by many to be the greatest women's basketball player of all time. In her storied WNBA career she has won three rings and was also a college star for UConn. She was a key player in Huskies' national championship three-peat from 2002 to 2004.
Bueckers will be hoping to use Taurasi's achievements as inspiration in her quest to win the national championship. The college hoops star is projected by some to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and her senior season gives her a chance to capture that elusive national crown which she has been chasing.
