The Florida Gators have secured a major recruit in Olivier Rioux, who is the tallest teenager in the world at 7-foot-9. Rioux has committed to playing for the University of Florida in the highly competitive Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Having completed his high school basketball career at the prestigious IMG Academy, Rioux was rated as a three-star prospect. Despite being listed at 7'7" just a year ago, Olivier Rioux’s current height is confirmed at 7'9", with a weight of 290 pounds. He has a wingspan of 8 feet, and according to his Instagram bio, wears size 20 shoes.

According to Guinness World Records, Rioux was already 6'1" at the age of eight. Now, at 18, he stands at a towering 7'9", making him one of the tallest basketball players in history, surpassing even Shaquille O'Neal by eight inches. The Canadian center’s ability to score without jumping has attracted a lot of attention, with viral videos circulating on social media.


Olivier Rioux's basketball prowess goes beyond his size

At the 2023 U18 FIBA AmeriCup, Olivier Rioux helped Canada secure a bronze medal, averaging 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. His best performances include scoring 10 points against Venezuela and grabbing nine rebounds against Puerto Rico.

At the 2021 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, he averaged 8.3 points and 10.3 rebounds over six games and put in some good performances at both the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup.


Olivier Rioux’s family's height scale?

Rioux, born on February 2, 2006, in Quebec, comes from a tall family. His father, Jean-Francois, is 6'8" tall, and his mother, Anne, is 6' 2". His older brother, Émile, also stands tall at 6'9".
