Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies were able to knock off the Providence Friars, 67-41 on Sunday to conclude 2024 on a high note. This victory gave the Geno Auriemma-coached squad their 11th win of the 2024-2025 season as they ramp up preparations for conference play.
On Sunday, At the 8:41 mark of the third quarter after a failed three-point attempt from Providence, Bueckers would race the Friars' Grace Efosa-Aguebor to try to get to the loose ball. Efosa-Aguebor seemed to have gone out of bounds with the ball in her hands, with Bueckers trailing behind going for the ball. However, the referee awarded possession to Providence after this play.
In a video uploaded on Instagram, the Huskies star was caught on the broadcast reacting in disbelief to the call and saying:
"What?! What the hell?,”
There were also some fans in the comments section of the video who felt that the call was wrong.
"Honestly though, it was a BS call!," one user commented.
"Bro was right there too," another said about the official.
"She held the ball and crossed the sideline. Paige not even close lol," a user wrote.
The call had no major impact on the game and the Huskies put in a dominating performance to end 2024 on a high note. UConn now heads into the new year seeking the 12th victory of their campaign, against the Marquette Golden Eagles on Wednesday.
