The 2024 NCAA basketball season ended with the UConn Huskies and the South Carolina Gamecocks crowned the men's and women's champions, respectively. The offseason has witnessed monumental shifts to some teams, like the Kentucky Wildcats and Duke Blue Devils, which lost most, if not, all their players.
All of these changes have increased the anticipation of the next season as fans await the next generation of basketball stars to unleash their talents. Here's when you can catch the action.
When does the 2025 NCAA men's college basketball season start?
The 2025 NCAA men's college basketball season will begin in the first week of November.
After four months of regular season, the 2025 March Madness will begin from March 16, with the Selection Sunday on March 18. The NCAA championship game will be on Apr. 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Duke and UConn will start as the favorites for the 2025 championship title. The Blue Devils have one of the strongest freshmen classes joining in November, with Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach, Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel leading from the front.
The Huskies have lost their entire starting five to the 2024 NBA draft. However, Dan Hurley has won back-to-back championships with entirely new rosters. So he will fancy winning another on the trot.
When does the 2025 NCAA women's college basketball season start?
The 2025 NCAA women's college basketball season will also start in the first week of November. The 2025 March Madness for women will begin on March 19, with the NCAA championship game on Apr. 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are at the forefront of repeating this year's championship run next season as well. That's because most of the roster from the 2024 season is returning. Chloe Kitts, Ashlyn Watkins, Raven Johnson, Tessa Johnson, Bree Hall, Te-Hina Paopao and MiLaysia Fulwiley will be joined by No. 2 rated Joyce Edwards from the 2024 recruiting class.
However, the Gamecocks will face stiff competition from the USC Trojans. JuJu Watkins and Co. have already shown what they can achieve with their historic Elite Eight run last season. Now, coach Lindsay Gottlieb has added incoming freshmen Kennedy Smith, Kayleigh Heckel and Avery Howell making USC the No. 1 recruiting class in the NCAA.
Apart from the recruits, the Trojans have also signed Kiki Iriafen and Talia von Oelhoffen from the transfer portal, making them one of the strongest teams.
