USC and UConn face off in one of the most anticipated women's college basketball nonconference showdowns this season. It is a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in which the Huskies defeated the Trojans 80-73.
Both teams are coming off big wins during the week. No. 7 USC (10-1, 1-0 in Big Ten) is coming off an 88-30 victory over Elon on Sunday while No. 4 UConn (10-1, 1-0 Big East) bounced back from its first loss this season against Notre Dame with a pair of 30-plus-point wins over Georgetown and Iowa State.
The 1-2 combo of JuJu Watkins and Kiki Iriafen has been as good as advertised for the Trojans for they have provided half of USC's offensive production this season. Watkins has averaged 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.5 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.
Iriafen, acquired from Stanford via the transfer portal, has proven to be an effective No. 2 scoring option for the Trojans, tallying 18.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.4 apg and 1.2 spg. She has eased the scoring burden off Watkins and made the Lindsay Gottlieb-coached squad a postseason favorite.
On the other hand, Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong have emerged as the leading producers for UConn this season. Bueckers is the Huskies' leading scorer, averaging 20.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.1 spg.
No. 1 freshman Strong has lived up to the hype, putting up great numbers for UConn's cause. She has 17.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.6 apg, 2.2 spg and 1.5 bpg, giving Geno Auriemma's Huskies an efficient second option just in case Bueckers is bothered by the opposition's defense.

What to expect from Trojans vs Huskies 2024-25 women's college basketball game?
USC and UConn have played good basketball this season, surging past their opponents with surgical precision. Both teams have lost to Notre Dame in the middle of their nonconference schedules and have bounced back big time to prove their worth as two of the Top 10 teams in women's college basketball.
Watkins and Iriafen will likely have their hands full against their UConn counterparts, Bueckers and Strong. The clinical duos are expected to score against each other and try to carry their respective teams to a crucial victory.
Both team's supporting casts could prove vital in this clash with UConn expecting Ashlynn Shade, Kaitlyn Chen and Azzi Fudd (if healthy) to provide additional firepower for the Huskies.
On the other hand, USC will look for the production of Rayah Marshall, Talia von Oelhoffen and Kayleigh Heckel as complementary support in case Watkins and Iriafen are bothered by UConn's defense early.
