The UConn Huskies just notched their fourth straight win of the 2024-25 Big East Conference on Sunday. Much to the delight of coach Dan Hurley and the UConn faithful, they were able to take off a 14-point deficit and come out of their homefloor victorious against the Providence Friars, 87-84, to improve to 12-3 overall.
This is the back-to-back defending national champions' eighth straight triumph after losing all of their games at last year's Maui Invitational. Early on, it seemed as though the Dan Hurley-coached squad did not look like the title-clinching team they were last campaign, but recently, they have turned the tide in their favor.
With the momentum shifting their way, Hurley, known for his polarizing and erratic behavior on court, took to his X account to give his thoughts on his team's strings of success. Funny enough, the 52-year-old just needed one photo of him from the Friars win to summarize it all.
With his bold photo devoid of a caption, fans reacted to Hurley's upload. The seven-year UConn tactician wore a white sweater with blue Christmas-themed patterns during their game on Sunday, which has since taken the interest of spectators both positively and negatively.
"WORST SWEATER EVER !" one user exclaimed.
"Turtleneck quarter zip is a really good fit for Coach Champ. 3peat assured?" one fan said.
"Great sweater, great win. Haters — we love fuel. So, thank you and GFY," another replied.
"Someone was not happy," a user posted with laughing emojis.
"Can't lie, this might be your look coach," another shared.
"Never take that sweater off," another user asserted.
With the mixed bag of thoughts towards Hurley's look in the Providence fixture, what can't be denied is that he has steered his team towards looking like true reigning national champions. They hope to stay atop early on in the conference as they face the gutsy Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday in front of a jam-packed away crowd.
The UConn Huskies now move up to No. 9 in the latest AP poll
After holding an 11th place ranking for the past three weeks, the UConn Huskies have moved up the standings of the latest AP poll to just inside the top 10 at ninth place. This comes after their triumph against Providence as they hope to sustain that momentum moving forward.
There is still much work to be done for Hurley and the Huskies if they want to achieve an uber-rare national championship three-peat this year. But their recent upward trajectory is a good sign of the positive outcomes that will occur.
