Xavier Booker plays as a forward for the Michigan State Spartans of the Big Ten Conference. He was a five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2023 class. Booker grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended Cathedral High School. In his junior year, he averaged 12.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and shooting 36% from the 3-point region per game, leading Cathedral to the Class 4A state championship. In 2023, Booker was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Game.

On July 30, 2022, he opted to play collegiate basketball at Michigan State instead of accepting Auburn, Duke, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Indiana, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and Purdue. Booker was the top-ranked high school prospect to pledge to Michigan State, where head coach Tom Izzo was in charge, according to 247 Sports. He is a finalist for the Naismith High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year award and was chosen for the Third squad Naismith High School All-American squad. As a freshman, Booker participated in 27 home games, including two starts. At the end of the season, he scored 3.7 points and pulled down 1.7 rebounds in 9.3 minutes per game.
