Zakai Za’Miek Zeigler, born on August 2, 2002, is a point guard who will embrace a veteran role in his final season with the Tennessee Volunteers of the Southeastern Conference. One of the shortest point guards in college basketball, the 5ft 7inch athlete also played football at Immaculate Conception High School where he played in running back, quarterback and safety positions. He began his collegiate journey with the Tennessee Volunteers where he was honoured with the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. Last season, Zeigler appeared in all 36 games and concluded the season with the third-most assists (218) in the program’s history. He also averaged 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 31.6 minutes per game.
He was rated as a three-star recruit out of his prep school and received offers from Minnesota, Manhattan, New Mexico State, Southern Illinois and a few more. During his senior year, he participated in the 2021 Peach Jam where he averaged 15.3 points and 5.5 assists per game. The rising senior will play his final season with the Vols after leading the program to an SEC regular-season championship and a spot in the Elite Eight.
