The Texas Longhorns faced their first loss of the season in Week 8 against Kirby Smart's Georgia. The game was full of drama, from fans throwing stuff on the field to controversial calls. Moreover, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian benched his starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers, when the team was down 20-0 in the first half.

While Sarkisian was hoping to gain some momentum with the quarterback change as Arch Manning made his way onto the field, things didn't go as planned. He went just 3-for-6 for 19 yards in the limited time he played.

The decision sparked some debate among fans and analysts as to if it was the right decision. Among those who didn't agree with Sarkisian's decision was the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.

During his appearance at the "Big Bets on Campus" podcast, Manziel said:

"You know, Coach Sark has come out and said that you know this is his guy, he is the starter, he is the leader of this football team. So, at no point throughout, would I ever think that I would see him have to go to the bench. I don’t think this is anything that you go to the sideline and take a look at anything or anything like that."
"This is a — I thought during the game — a really weird decision. Trying to get them a little bit of a spark going but didn’t come to fruition the way they wanted it to. Quinn Ewers is a guy they are expecting to be one of the first quarterbacks taken off the board in the NFL draft this year, and you send him to the bench. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me," Manziel added.

When was the last time Quinn Ewers took the sidelines?

Steve Sarkisian's Texas secured a massive 56-7 win over UTSA in Week 4 but quarterback Quinn Ewers had to leave the field in the second quarter due to an abdominal strain.

Before his abrupt exit, he completed 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards while scoring two touchdowns and one interception. He missed the next two games before making a comeback for the Red River Rivalry matchup.
