The Big 12 was faced with an existential threat a few years ago following the announcement of the exit of its two most prominent schools, Texas and Oklahoma. However, the conference was able to sail to survival and ensure some stability in its future in collegiate athletics.

However, with the unpredictability of the conference realignment landscape in the world of college sports, bigger conferences, like the Southeastern Conference, could once again attempt to poach from the conference.

Here's a look at three Big 12 teams that could find their way to the SEC in the future.

Three Big 12 schools that could join the SEC

#1 Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State is undoubtedly one of the top teams in the Big 12 over the years. While the program doesn't boast too many championships, they've been a formidable team in the two decades of Mike Gundy, which could excite the SEC in luring the team over.

More importantly, the Cowboys come from the same state as Oklahoma, which completed its move to the SEC in 2021. Reuniting with their in-state rival could serve as a case for Oklahoma State’s move to the SEC.

It will also help revive the Bedlam Series, which is set to die after the Sooners moved to the SEC.

#2 Kansas State

Following the exit of Texas and Oklahoma, Kansas State is arguably the best team in the Big 12. The Wildcats have been competitive in the last couple of years, winning the conference championship in 2022. This could obviously ignite the interest of the SEC.

Furthermore, the Wildcats are bound to ensure the expansion of the SEC market to another state. While the state of Kansas doesn't boast a huge population compared to many states where the SEC market extends, it helps increase the exposure of the conference to a certain extent.

#3 Baylor

Baylor has always been a contender in the Big 12, and the program is expected to be more prominent in 2024 following the exit of Texas and Oklahoma. The Bears have won three conference championships in the last 10 seasons, so this record could interest the SEC.

Following the transition of the Texas Longhorns, the addition of Baylor to the SEC would allow the conference to expand its market wider in the state of Texas. That would also help revive their in-state rivalry with Texas and Texas A&M, who are bonafide members of the SEC.
