The first scrimmage for the Alabama Crimson Tide under coach Kalen DeBoer is approaching and as always, there are questions that need to be answered. Let's take a look at some of the more pressing questions for the team ahead of their opening preseason game.
Top questions for Alabama football ahead of 1st scrimmage
Who will be the leading running back?
If we compare how Kalen DeBoer coached with the Washington Huskies last season, the running back was not as valuable of a position as others.
However, with Jase McClellan in the NFL and Roydell Williams with Florida State Seminoles, the Crimson Tide are going try and figure out who will lead the running back room.
The trio of Justice Haynes, Jam Miller and Richard Young combined for just 75 total carries last season for the Roll Tide.
Kalen DeBoer may not use many running plays but there needs to be some semblance of a rushing attack and it cannot all be on quarterback Jalen Milroe. Otherwise, teams will just drop in coverage and it will make moving the football extremely difficult throughout the regular season.
How will the special teams look?
Special teams in college football typically go underappreciated. But with place-kicker Will Reichard no longer with the team and in the NFL, the kicking spot is going to be interesting.
Senior transfer Graham Nicholson is expected to be the kicker for the program for the 2024 college football season. But expecting almost perfection out of the field goals and extra points may be a bit more difficult going forward.
What should we expect out of the secondary in 2024?
The Alabama Crimson Tide have been seeing a lot of changes to the roster but the secondary is one of the more massive changes to the roster.
They have more new faces on the roster this year after losing some significant names, such as Kool-Aid McKinstry during the 2024 NFL Draft. However, some are from the Washington Huskies, so there are people who are familiar to the system.
