3 reasons why Brian Kelly will be on the hot seat in 2024-25 season 

The LSU Tigers have had a lot of excitement the last few years but have nothing to show for it. After losing in the SEC Championship Game in the first year under head coach Brian Kelly and not making the championship game last season, postseason success has eluded the Tigers in recent seasons.

There are some rumblings going on in the college football world that Brian Kelly's seat may get hot as the 2024-25 season goes on. Here's a closer look at a few reasons why that just might be true.

Reasons why Brian Kelly will be on the hot seat in 2024

#1. Can't win the big one

Brian Kelly has been a great head coach during the regular season but has been unable to win the big game. He needs to prove that winning double-digit games during the regular season means something and can lead to postseason success. Three consecutive years of not doing well in the postseason is not good enough in Baton Rouge.

#2. Maybe an LSU reunion?

There could be some other coach who is more equipped to win and has a history with the school. Maybe a recently retired coach who won a national championship with the Tigers like Nick Saban could float around the idea of wanting another run with LSU.

While it is nowhere near likely to happen, the idea of Nick Saban – or another coach who has a history with the program – coming in and freshening things up and building the program further could be an enticing prospect.

#3. Not worth the contract at this point

Brian Kelly is getting paid a lot of money by the LSU Tigers and the expectation is that he will compete for national championships. However, he has not been able to do that. Winning in the regular season is one thing but it is not enough after getting rid of Ed Orgeron, who won a national championship.

Kelly is entering the third year of a 10-year, $95 million contract and that is a lot of money to not make a College Football Playoff game or even win the SEC Championship. It will be interesting to see how long LSU maintains faith in Brian Kelly if silverware is not achieved in the near future.
