The Michigan Wolverines have gotten off to a strong start to the 2024 college football season as they are sitting at 4-1, including a 2-0 mark in Big Ten play, and are ranked 10th in the nation. After beginning their season with a victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs, the team suffered a blowout loss to the then-No.3-ranked Texas Longhorns in Week 2.
The Wolverines bounced back with a 10-point victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves before reeling off back-to-back three point wins over the then-No.11-ranked USC Trojans and Minnesota Golden Gophers to open Big Ten play. They are set to face the Washington Huskies in a rematch of last year's College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Here's a look at three reasons why Michigan can beat Washington in Week 6.
3 reasons why Michigan Wolverines could beat Washington Huskies in Week 6
#1: The Michigan Wolverines running game has picked things up
The Michigan Wolverines have ran the ball well to begin the 2024 season. After finishing with 148 rushing yards and no touchdowns in their season opener, as well as 80 rushing yards and no touchdowns in their lone loss, they have really picked things up.
The Wolverines followed that up by exploding for 301 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Week 3. While many questioned if they could find the same success running the ball against a power conference opponent, they did so the following week as they finished with 290 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Michigan accounted for 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Week 5.
#2: The Washington Huskies are not the same team they were in 2023
The Washington Huskies are far from the same team that the Michigan Wolverines played for a national title in January.
While the Wolverines have also had plenty of turnover, they have continued to play well. The same cannot be said for Washington as they are just 3-2 and could struggle to reach the six win threshold required for bowl eligibility.
#3: The Wolverines have found ways to win despite a struggling passing game
The Michigan Wolverines have struggled to move the ball through the air as they have averaged just 115.4 passing yards per game, ranking just 130th out of 134 qualified teams. However, they have found a way to string together wins, thanks to a strong running game and timely takeaways.
Michigan should continue to win in Week 6.
