The Pac-12 Conference is down to only a pair of schools, and there are a lot of issues going around. The Oregon State Beavers and the Washington State Cougars are the only two members associated with the conference after 10 former members left for other power conferences.

There's a lot of excitement from the Pac-12 Conference but concerns linger about its ability to survive. Let's take a look at some of the reasons why conference realignment could have just ended the Pac-12.

Why the Pac-12 could fail in conference realignment

#1 Teams not interested

The only two schools in the Pac-12 Conference are the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington State Cougars.

There's absolutely no guarantee of anything associated with a better deal than what a current Group of Five conference has. The Pac-12 is not going to be a power conference without a major media rights partner, so what would interest a number of schools associated with the Conference of Champions?

#2 Not enough in the media rights deal

There are a lot of media right partners that are going to be fishing for live college football, let alone other sports.

However, the amount of money associated with the conference is not going to move the needle for a conference that's expected to insert themselves right back into that national power that they were a handful of years ago.

Media right partners like ESPN and Apple TV could be out for the decision that George Kliavkoff took as Pac-12 Conference, and the money is not going to be anywhere near $50 million per year for each school.

#3 Too little too late

The Pac-12 Conference was once one of the superpowers in college athletics with an incredible history. However, the other conferences in the Power Four are strong, which puts the Pac-12 in a tough situation.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is struggling to stay afloat as it is, so what would make the Pac-12 with two teams any better?
