Ryan Day is set to enter his sixth full season as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Day has gone 11-2 in the past three seasons, as the Buckeyes have lost three straight years to the Michigan Wolverines.
With Day and Ohio State not having success against Michigan, he is on the hot seat, and here are three reasons why Day could be fired this season.
3 reasons why Ryan Day could be fired in 2025
#1. Ohio State loses to Michigan
If Ohio State loses to Michigan for the fourth straight year, Day will likely be fired as the head coach of the Buckeyes.
Michigan is Ohio State's biggest rival and there is already pressure on Day due to the team losing three years in a row to the Wolverines. With Michigan likely taking a step back this year and Ohio State supposed to be a national championship favorite, a loss would likely be it for him as the Buckeyes head coach.
#2. Don't win the Big Ten
The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the favorites to win the national championship, but if Ohio State doesn't even win the Big Ten, Ryan Day could be fired.
#3. Ohio State fails to make playoffs
If Ohio State doesn't make the playoffs in 2024, Ryan Day's time as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes will likely be over.
The college football playoff is expanding to 12 teams this season, so if Ohio State isn't even one of the top 12 teams, something must have horribly go wrong for the Buckeyes.
Not making the playoffs would likely mean that Ohio State loses 3+ games, which means they would have lost to Michigan, Oregon and likely Penn State or Nebraska.
Although this seems unlikely, if it does happen, Day would no doubt be fired as the head coach of the Buckeyes.
