Just like in the real world, Redshirting is a strategic decision in College Football 25 that is used for roster management. When a player is designated as a redshirt in a program, they stay on the team and are permitted to practice, but they do not compete in games during the year.

The redshirting option is available in the Dynasty and Road to Glory modes in the video game. Taking the redshirt has a couple of benefits: it secures a player an extra year of eligibility and also helps increase their rating in the game, thereby making them better in the second year.

In College Football 25, the redshirting option is only available for freshmen. The game does not have a medical redshirt option, where a player takes the redshirt after suffering a long-term injury that prevents them from participating during the season.

Redshirting in the Dynasty mode can be advantageous but some mistakes have to be avoided. Here's a look at three mistakes to avoid while redshirting a player in the Dynasty mode.

Three redshirting mistakes to avoid in College Football 25 Dynasty mode

#1, Not taking note of the threshold

A player can play for a program during a season in College Football 25 and still take a redshirt. However, there's a threshold for the number of games they can appear in.

A player must not appear in more than four games during his freshman season to be eligible for a redshirt. Not taking note of this threshold can be costly in Dynasty mode. It pretty much makes a player lose a potential extra year of eligibility they could have obtained.

#2, Going against the deal-breaker

Every prospect in College Football 25 Dynasty mode has a pitch grade and deal breaker during their recruiting process. This has to be met to secure the commitment of a prospect.

For players with “playing time” in their deal-breaker, making them appear in a few games as a freshman is crucial. Redshirting them without a freshman appearance could lead them to enter the transfer portal.

#3, Unfavorable timing

It’s crucial to study the time at which a player is designated as a redshirt in College Football 25 Dynasty mode. This could determine how some players react to the decision.

Redshirting a top talent at the start of the season could trigger a potential transfer portal move. It's much better to make them feel like a true freshman early in the season and appear in a few games before designating as a redshirt later in the season.
