EA Sports College Football 25 has delivered a massive amount of fun. But for some players, fun isn't enough. For players looking to move above having enjoyable little battles, it's time to get tactical.

Here are five controls to move above the crowd. You can use these tips to outsmart your friends relentlessly.

#1. Pass protection adjustment

In presnap adjustments, players can shift the offensive line. Use the LB or L1 button pre-snap to call up the pass protection screen.

From there, you can shift players left or right, call for max protection, or even call for an empty set. But when it looks like a defense is pinning its ears back and rushing the QB, you can better protect your passer.

#2. Guess pass

If you're having trouble slowing opposing offenses in passing downs, call up the guess pass function.

Before the snap, hit the R1 or RB button and then push the right stick up. While this alignment will put your defense at a slightly bigger risk of giving up a big play, it'll send your pass rushers on a fast path toward the QB. It's not an every-down thing, but it can help to dial up some extra pass rush intensity.

#3. Use the coverage shell

The coverage shell technique is a brilliant bit of defensive strategy. Before choosing a defensive play, use the right stick to switch the look your defense will show before the snap.

With the coverage shell, you can line up in a Cover 2, but then adjust to a Cover 3 before the snap. It's a great way to bait inexperienced players into silly mistakes.

#4. Bust out the conservative tackles

Now this is less of a crazy breaking news strategy and more of a failure by older players to understand changes in the game.

If you played EA football a decade or more ago, you made diving tackles or hit-sticked opponents routinely. Those both carry a certain amount of risk now.

The safe play is to use the conservative tackle button (X or square, depending on the console) to assure yourself of a solid stop.

#5. Kick softly

As above, this is less a crazy strategy than a decision based on an understanding of changes in the game. First, know this – kicking well in College Football 25 is impossible. The kicking meter requires the hand coordination of a brain surgeon. And if you try for perfection, you'll be unable to make extra points.

Try short kicks and try them kicking at about half power. That'll be enough to make a 30 to 35-yard field goal and will help players at least connect on extra points.
