Defense is not easy in College Football 25, so it is understandable if new players need some tips and tricks to improve. The game has been specifically designed to favor offense. As a result, you will notice that you struggle to stop the opposing teams when you load up the game, regardless of the teams in the game. Fortunately, with a few tips, you can improve your defense.
5 Tips to Improve Your Defense
When looking to improve your defense, it is best to focus on a few things rather than revamping your entire game. Here are five things you can focus on that should have an immediate effect on your defense.
#1 Use your Switch Stick
Switch Stick is a new mechanic introduced in CFB 25. It allows players to switch to different defenders during the play, allowing the player to adjust to offensive plays quickly. To use the switch stick, flick the right stick in the direction of the defender you want to control.
#2 Disguise your coverages
One of the things CFB 25 has done a great job with is giving players lots of options on the play-calling screen. You can select premade plays or modify them in almost every way possible. Changing the number of players covering certain areas and their stances allows you to disguise your coverages.
#3 Set your audibles
You can set your audibles on the play-calling screen when hovering over a play. Hold the left trigger, and it will display the audibles you have in place. You can modify which audibles you have enabled on this screen. Knowing your audibles and using them is helpful when your opponent calls a no-huddle play.
#4 Familiarize yourself with your opponent's roster
One of the best things you can do before a game is familiarize yourself with your opponent's roster. Knowing who the opponent's highest-rated offensive players are will allow you to make an educated guess on what types of plays they will run more often. For example, a team with a highly-rated running back will likely run the ball more than the average team.
#5 Defend deep balls
One of the biggest mistakes new players make is focusing too much on blitzing. As a result, they leave deep options open and let their opponent pick up massive yardage. Make sure you have coverage on receivers playing deep on nearly every play. The best way to do this is to keep your defender's shoulder in front of the receiver's to stop them from getting a better position.
