There are always coaches on the hot seat in college football. Every week that passes makes it more likely that some of these coaches will be fired. With Week 12 in the books and only two weeks remaining in the regular season, there are some hot seats in the college football world. Arkansas coach Sam Pittman is one of the most notable examples, but other coaches could be fired soon.
5 coaches on the hot seat after Week 12
With Week 12 of the college football season done, it is becoming clearer which coaches are on the chopping block. Here are five on the hot seat who could be fired sooner rather than later.
#1 Sam Pittman
Arkansas Razorbacks (5-5) coach Sam Pittman has struggled to help his team find consistency this year. They lost to No. 3-ranked Texas on Saturday 20-10, making it their third loss in four games. Pittman has been the Arkansas coach since 2020 and has led the program to a 28-30 record in nearly five seasons. If things don't change drastically in the final two games, Pittman could be fired.
#2 Brian Kelly
The LSU Tigers (6-4) and coach Brian Kelly were in a good position to make the playoffs three games ago, but a three-game losing streak has caused them to fall out of the mix. While losses to No. 15-ranked Texas A&M and No. 9-ranked Alabama are acceptable, a 27-16 loss to Florida on Saturday is not. This losing streak certainly puts Kelly's job in danger.
#3 Tom Herman
Although coach Tom Herman and his Florida Atlantic Owls (2-8) did not have exceptionally high expectations this year, their abysmal record puts him on the hot seat. They lost 18-15 to Temple on Saturday, keeping them at the bottom of the AAC. After going 4-8 in his first season, Herman had his team get worse this year, and as a result, his job is in jeopardy.
#4 Ryan Walters
Although losing 49-10 to No. 4 Penn State is not unexpected for the Purdue Boilermakers (1-9), the results of the season as a whole put coach Ryan Walters' job in jeopardy. The Boilermakers have struggled tremendously under Walters, and as a result, it might be time for a coaching change.
#5 Mike MacIntyre
Coach Mike MacIntyre and the FIU Panthers (3-7) lost 34-31 to Jacksonville State on Saturday. After going 3-8 in his first two seasons with FIU, McIntyre is now guaranteed another losing season. As a result, it could be difficult for him to retain his job in the offseason.
