Friday marked the worldwide release of EA Sports College Football 25, the first licensed college football game in over a decade. This is a title many college football fans have been eagerly anticipating since it was announced in 2021.

During the game's development, it was revealed that the game would only be released on current-generation consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. That was disappointing news for PC players who won't get access to the newest college football video game.

#1 Devalues EA Play Pro subscription

PC players have the option of paying a monthly fee to subscribe to EA Play Pro, which offers a library of games from the publisher along with access to new releases on launch day.

If EA Sports College Football 25 had been released on PC, it likely would have been included in the EA Play Pro library, allowing subscribers to get their hands on the game from day one.

It's a massive disappointment for players who pay for the service to miss out on one of the company's biggest releases of all time.

#2 Increasing popularity of PC gaming

There has been a massive increase in the player base on PC in recent years. That means a large chunk of the player base won't have access to EA Sports College Football 25.

A large draw to PC gaming has a lot to do with the power they can have over home consoles. Most high-end PCs can run games quicker and smoother than consoles, making for a more enjoyable and competitive experience.

#3 Limited cross-play

Many recent popular video game titles include cross-play, which allow users to play online with friends across different platforms.

EA Sports College Football 25 includes cross-play, but with no release on PC or old-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), it limits the ability of players to team up with more friends.

With the game releasing only on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it means only players on those consoles can use cross-play. Cross-play isn't available for every game mode, but it still offers players the ability to play modes like Road to the College Football Playoff and Ultimate Team online with friends on other consoles.

#4 A smaller player base to offer feedback

There will likely never be a perfect video game that has no bugs or flaws. That makes player feedback vital for companies to identify where they can improve their games with future patch updates or the following year's game.

With EA Sports College Football 25 not receiving a PC release this year, it limits the player base that could offer constructive feedback to improve the game. That could slow the progress of making the best possible game and delay bug fixes.

#5 Many other EA Sports titles are available on PC

It seems odd that EA Sports would exclude their college football game from PC when recent titles like Madden NFL 24, F1 24, EA Sports FC 24 and EA Sports PGA are all available on PC.

Clearly, the company has the ability to put their newest releases on the platform, but they haven't given a clear reason why College Football 25 won't make its way to PC this year.
