In College Football 25, as in real life, a stout defense carries its weight. It's tough to reach the top without being able to lock down high-powered offenses. Obviously, the teams with top-level defenses have a big advantage. Here are five of the best defenses in College Football 25.
5 team with mighty defensive unins in College Football 25
#1 Ohio State
A year ago, Ohio State held opponents to just 11.2 points and 265 yards per game. They return with virtually their entire defensive line and a healthy majority of their linebacking corps and secondary.
Ohio State is led by tackle Tyleik Williams and end JT Tuimoloau up front, with top defensive backs including Denzel Burke and Caleb Downs. There's a reason EA rated Ohio State's defense as the top in the nation with a 96 rating. They really are that good.
#2 Georgia
With a pair of national titles in the last three seasons, Georgia boasts a stout defense that can shut down most teams easily. Only once in the past seven seasons has Georgia allowed 20 points per game (and then they allowed exactly that). Last year, they gave up 15.6 points and 289 yards per game.
Georgia returns most of its front line and while the secondary and linebacking corps are a little more untested, some of UGA's stars are there. Linebacker Smael Mondon and DB Malaki Starks lead a defense that EA ranked at a 94 rating.
#3 Michigan
Don't sleep on the defending champions as one of the top defenses in College Football 25. They probably won't reach last year's stats of 10.4 points and 247 yards allowed per game, but Michigan has plenty of talent.
New coach Sherrone Moore inherited cornerback Will Johnson, who is one of the nation's best at his position. Nose tackle Mason Graham will be a 317-pound handful up front. Just because Michigan won't be the 2023 squad doesn't mean they'll be less than one of the best defenses in College Football 25.
#4 Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish are among the strongest defensive teams on CF25. Marcus Freeman's third-year bunch has shown steady improvement, allowing just 15.9 points and 276 yards per game last season. Freeman also returns most of the contributors from a season ago.
Notre Dame is led by a pair of outstanding seniors, safety Xavier Watts and nose guard Howard Cross. Each won All-American honors a year ago and will give the Irish a standout on the front and back lines. Players might sleep on Notre Dame in CF25, but they shouldn't.
#5 Alabama
Can the Tide keep it up post-Saban? The defense is certainly stout enough to help with the job. Last season, Alabama allowed 19 points and 316 yards per game. Those are good numbers, but not up to Alabama's usual standard.
Safety Malachi Moore and linebacker Deontae Lawson will be a couple of standouts for Kalen DeBoer. Alabama didn't build its program overnight and the depth is such that they'll withstand this coaching change just fine.
